Women In Action

Several years ago, after watching “The Bucket List”, Pam Damour began her own Bucket List. As a highly respected national sewing educator, Pam saw the need for sewing education beyond the classroom. One of the things on her list was to teach sewing in a region where women needed to be empowered. Aka, a Sewing Mission.

Her first attempts were within the United States. After two failed attempts, she decided to put her dream on the back burner.

Pam never gave up on the idea, pitching it to various groups and churches, and always praying for the right venue.

In March of 2017, at a sewing expo, she met Robin Kruk. When Pam learned that Robin was a Missionary who also taught sewing, Pam was brought to tears. They shared their common goals of bringing knowledge to women and teaching a skill to them to empower them to support themselves and their families. As Pam told Robin of her desire to do a sewing mission, she was brought to tears. The rest, as they say, is history! Connections were made with a minister and a missionary in Peru and the ball started rolling.

With the help of Pam’s teaching partner, Diane Murphy, almost 500 women of all ages in the country of Peru have been taught to sew and/or improved their skills and confidence. Many of the ladies have started their own businesses, while others have gained employment in sewing facilities. There are now two strong on going sewing communities guided by local teachers, continuing the mission of: “Changing lives, one stitch at a time”
